Unfolding Futures:
A Zine-Making Workshop

Facilitator: Ipsa Jain

Biotechnology isn’t just about labs and experiments — it’s about our bodies, choices, communities, and the futures we imagine together. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll use zines to explore how biotech shapes our lives today and might transform our world tomorrow. Through personal storytelling, writing, drawing, and speculative thinking, you’ll create a zine that captures your fears, hopes, memories, and dreams around biotechnology.

Introduction to Kinetic Sculptures: Building Movement

Facilitator: Gaurav Patekar

In this workshop, we’ll dive into the playful world of kinetic sculptures — art that moves. Starting with an exploration of how artists use motion in their work, we’ll learn about simple mechanical elements like gears, pulleys, and linkages. Then, using materials like wooden sticks and 3D-printed parts, you’ll design and build your own small kinetic sculpture or moving toy.

Exploring Data Sculptures: Turning Numbers into Objects

Facilitator: Debanshu Bhaumik

In this workshop, we’ll explore the art of data sculpture — transforming information into tactile, multisensory experiences. Moving beyond traditional charts and graphs, we’ll experiment with textures, forms, and materials to reimagine how data can tell stories.
Through guided exercises and collaborative making, participants will create small sculptures that map numbers into new, meaningful landscapes.

Letter Crafting: Telling Stories Through Handmade Letters

Facilitator: Nandita Saha

In this creative workshop, you’ll design a letter as a tactile, story-rich sculpture for someone who lives far away. Using text, drawings, and mixed materials, we’ll bring personal stories to life through paper cutting, folding, and inventive composition.
Think of someone you’d like to write to, and the story you want to share. Feel free to bring photographs, tickets, wrappers, leaves, or fabric cut-outs to weave into your creation.
